You don't always know when a crisis will hit, but you can be prepared. Will you KnoWhat 2 Do? "Prepare, Think and Act"1 to protect you and your family in time of an unexpected event in your home or in the area. No one will keep you and your family safe at home but YOU!

Use the following checklist to be sure that you have addressed the issues that your family can follow in case of an emergency or other unexpected event.

YES NO Do you have an Emergency Plan, and does it cover all emergencies like fire, weather, acute illness? Does your family practice it?

YES NO Does your Plan include smoke, gas and carbon monoxide detectors in your home?4
YES NO Do you have a weather radio (NOAA) and do all members of your family know what the signals mean?
YES NO Does each member of your family know two ways out of the house?
YES NO Can each member of your family, who may be alone in the house, get to an exit and operate the door locks or windows to escape?
YES NO Does your family understand they must leave or seek shelter when an alarm sounds?4
YES NO Does each member of your family know whom to call for help and are the telephone numbers posted?
YES NO If the emergency is an illness in your home will the Fire Department be able to enter your home or will they have to break down the door?4 - See KNOX BOX
YES NO Does each member of your family have a current File of Life posted on the door of the refrigerator?
YES NO Is the "File of Life" sticker posted in the window beside your front door or near the door?4

YES NO In a weather-related emergency does your family know where to seek shelter?
YES NO Are your smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries replaced routinely?
YES NO Does your family understand that once they are outside, they should stay outside?
YES NO Have you created an Emergency Supply Kit?
YES NO Do you have a First Aid Kit and is it fully stocked?4
YES NO Do you have a fire extinguisher and is it serviced?
YES NO Do you encourage your family members to take CPR and First Aid Classes?
YES NO If needed, do members of your family know how to shut off the water, gas, and electricity to your home.
YES NO Do they know how to open the garage door without electricity?
YES NO Does your plan include who to call in case of a utility problem?
YES NO Do you have tarps or plywood on hand to cover openings created by a storm or fire?
YES NO Do you have flashlights, radios, etc, and more importantly, batteries located in a central area known to all family members?
YES NO Do you have a written Inventory and photographs of all valuable items in your home?
YES NO Do you have more than one copy of the inventory located outside of your home?
YES NO If you or members of your family walk on the Heritage Ranch streets and trails do they carry identification, a cell phone and know how to call in their location?
YES NO Are your emergency contact numbers current at the Heritage Ranch?


Don't be caught guilty of the most common errors in Emergency Planning:
Poor or no planning
Failure to keep the Plan up to date
No communication or understanding of the Plan by all family members
No procedure for shutting down critical equipment
Family member not told what actions to take in an emergency
Lack of training and practice
